A HOTEL in the Dominican Republic has been closed after about 200
tourists, most British, fell ill from mystery virus.
"They were placed under observation, the kitchen was inspected and
everything looks alright so far,'' Public Health secretary Bautista
Rojas said.
The 200 tourists fell ill over the weekend with vomiting and diarrhoea
at the hotel Gaspar Hernandez, 248km north of Santo Domingo, on the
northern coast of the Dominican Republic, which shares the Caribbean
island of Hispaniola with Haiti.
The health ministry took charge of the case late on Sunday, but did not
publicly report on it until yesterday, after British media reported on it.
Authorities said they had assigned a team of epidemiologists to
investigate the cause of the problem
