Earthquake, Aftershocks Rattle Bakersfield California *

LAKE ISABELLA, Calif. -- Kern County’s mountains east of the central
valley were rattled by an earthquake early Thursday morning.
The U.S. Geological Survey said a magnitude 4.4 earthquake struck at
1:11 a.m.
The quake was centered about 12 miles south-southeast of Lake Isabella
and 35 miles east-northeast of Bakersfield, Calif.
Update: Lake Isabella aftershock
Eyewitness news has just received word that there has been an aftershock
magnitude 3.5, in the area where another earthquake occurred at one
Thursday morning. The after shock was centered 11 miles south south east
of Lake Isabella, the epicenter was located approximately 2 miles below
the ground.
No injuries or damage have been reported after either earthquake, which
shook a mountainous area near Bakersfield early this morning.
The U.S. Geological Survey says a 4.4-magnitude quake hit a little after
1:00 about 12 miles south-southeast of the town of Lake Isabella. 29
Eyewitness News received several calls in the newsroom just after the
earthquake struck the area. Residents were shaken, but unharmed.
The Kern County earthquake happened just hours after one of similar size
in the Palm Springs area. At 8:55 last night, a magnitude-4.2 quake was
centered 27 miles south of Palm Springs.
