More than 30 children have been rescued from horrifying abuse after
police caught a Catholic man running a worldwide paedophile ring from
his bedroom.
Timothy Cox, 28, was jailed indefinitely earlier this year for child
pornography offences after detectives hacked into the website he ran
under the pseudonym Son of God.
Child protection officers identified images of children involved in the
abuse before shutting it down.
Since Cox, who ran the site called Kids, the Light of Our Lives from his
bedroom in Buxhall, Suffolk, was jailed in June, police have rescued 31
children from abusive situations.
Officers from the Child Exploitation and Online Protection (CEOP) centre
ran the undercover operation assisted by Suffolk Police.
A spokesman for the CEOP said: "When we seized the site we were about to
infiltrate it as a host to gain intelligence. We then did some work to
identify the victims around these images.
"These were not missing children. They were children rescued within
their own homes.
"There were incidents of people who had access to children through their
professional lives.
"They were of all age ranges and some were as young as babies.
"The majority of the children are from within the UK. More and more
children are being rescued as a result of the ongoing operations.
"The likelihood is we are going to get further children."
The website was a trading ground for indecent images and videos of
children, including babies, being raped and abused.
Officers from the CEOP said they expected their work to lead them to
more children who were still suffering at the hands of their abusers.
The spokesman said: "There will be more charges. It's the first time we
have infiltrated a peer-to-peer site and taken over identity of the host
to gain further intelligence.
"It's actually quite ground-breaking."
The investigation identified 700 suspects - 200 of whom live in the UK.
