Strong earthquake jolts Bangladesh*

DHAKA, Nov. 7 (Xinhua) -- A strong earthquake, measuring 6.0 on the
Richter scale, jolted southern and southeastern Bangladesh Wednesday
afternoon, causing panic among the people and creating cracks in many
buildings.
But no serious damage or casualty was reported, officials said.
The epicenter of the tremor, felt at 01:13 p.m. local time (0713
GMT), was about 253 km southeast of capital Dhaka city.
Residents in the tremor-shook areas said that strong earthquakes
were felted in the country's southeastern Chittagong, Cox's Bazar,
Bandarban, Khagrachhari, Comilla and Noakhali districts at about 01:10
p.m. local time, which lasted for 20-25 seconds.
Panicked by the sudden jolts, the people rushed out of their houses.
Cracks were developed in a number of buildings in the southeastern
Rangamati, Bandarban and Chittagong cities.
