ABOUT 75 firefighters are battling three bushfires across Tasmania,
including a 400-hectare blaze burning out of control south of Hobart.

The largest blaze is burning in a state reserve at Snug, south of
Hobart, Tasmania Fire Service State Operations Station Officer Shane
Batt told AAP.

Mr Batt said the 400-hectare fire was burning towards the coast, about
700-metres away and could put eight homes at Simmons Point under threat
if the wind changes direction.

"If the wind changes to a south easterly, it could affect some homes in
the area in and around Simmons Point," he said.

About 30 firefighters were backburning around the eight homes to try and
contain the fire, he said.

Meanwhile, a blaze which has burned about 200 hectares at Acton Park,
east of Hobart, has been contained.

Twenty-five firefighters are patrolling the scene, Mr Batt said.

A 150-hectare fire in Prossers Forest near Launceston in the state's
north was contained about 6pm (AEDT) last night.

About 20 firefighters and a helicopter conducting aerial water-bombing
are still monitoring the blaze.
