Wild weather set to lash Australia*

SOUTH-EAST Queensland is bracing for wild weather from a deep low off
the coast today.
The weather bureau has issued a severe weather warning for an area from
Fraser Island in the north, west to the eastern Darling Downs and
Granite Belt and south to northern New South Wales.
The low pressure system lying off the southern coast of Queensland was
expected to develop later this morning with a strong pressure gradient
developing winds of up to 90km/h, the weather bureau said.
Exposed coastal and elevated areas are expected to be most affected by
the high winds.
The State Emergency Service has advised people to stay away from the
open ocean, with waves of up to five metres likely to develop.
People were also warned to secure loose items around their houses and to
beware of fallen trees and powerlines.
