5 people killed in chain-reaction California crash*

LOS ANGELES - Police say five people including a 12-year-old boy died in
a fiery six-vehicle collision in South Los Angeles.

Los Angeles Police spokeswoman Karen Smith says the crash happened just
before 6 p.m. Monday when a van ran a red light and hit another van in
the Hyde Park neighborhood.

Smith says the first van hit the second van from the side, causing a
chain reaction that set three vehicles ablaze.

She says a 12-year-old boy was ejected from a vehicle and pronounced
dead at the scene. Two other victims were found burned beyond
recognition inside a vehicle.

Smith says 14 people were taken to the hospital, where two died of their
injuries and six were in critical condition.
