Alarm in Florida after three shark attacks*

A spate of shark attacks on surfers has prompted growing alarm in Florida.
There have been three attacks in as many days in the Atlantic Ocean off
New Smyrna Beach, a popular surfing spot.
Lifeguards cleared the beach on Monday after a surfer was bitten near a
jetty.
“It just latched on to me and took two chomps real quick,” said David
Alger, 18. “I kind of kicked my foot away and it just swam away.”
He only needed stitches but two other surfers had suffered similar
injuries over the weekend.
It was the tenth shark attack so far this year on New Smyrna Beach alone.
As most incidents occur in the summer, experts predict this year is
likely to break previous records.
A week ago, a shark killed a swimmer in southern California and police
said that a shark had also killed an American tourist surfing in western
Mexico.
Adrian Ruiz, 24, was bitten on the leg by a grey shark on Monday and
died from blood loss.
There have been three fatal shark attacks so far this year, including
one in Australia earlier this month. Last year, there was only one.
