Swiss clean up after heavy thunderstorms/floods*
GENEVA, July 22 (AFP) Jul 22, 2007
Authorities in central Switzerland were clearing up on Sunday after a
second night of heavy thunderstorms brought localised flash floods and
landslides, briefly cutting roads and a railway.
Several rivers in the regions of Bern and Lucerne overflowed and the
river Aar near the capital reached its alert level, local authorities said.
Landslides were reported in the Alpine foothills near the towns of Thun
and Interlaken overnight, while police said rescue services cleared
felled trees and helped empty flooded cellars.
Rail services between the small towns of Meiringen and Giswil were
suspended.
No one was reported injured and no evacuations were notified.
