AT least five people have been injured as Victoria was battered by wild
weather that uprooted trees, unroofed houses and caused flash flooding
across the state.

A man suffered a broken arm and several children received minor cuts as
a tree collapsed on a playground at Wattletree Road, Eltham North,
shortly after 5pm (AEDT).

A motorcyclist suffered leg injuries when a tree fell in front of him on
Whiteside Road, Officer, shortly before 3pm.

Earlier in the afternoon, two motorists were injured when a tree landed
on to their cars at St Kilda.

However, emergency services said the injuries were comparatively minor.

A three-storey commercial building in Oakleigh suffered serious
structural damage after a tree collapsed on it this evening.

Melbourne was tonight bracing for further storms with a severe weather
warning in force for the central district, which includes metropolitan
Melbourne. Winds of between 50 and 70km/h are forecast, with gusts of up
to 90km/h.

The State Emergency Service answered 1,050 distress calls in the 12
hours to 10pm.
