Earthquake hits Indonesian island*

A MODERATE 5.0-magnitude earthquake struck off Indonesia's Sulawesi
island overnight, the US Geological Survey said.
The tremor hit 178km south of the capital Manado and was 55km deep, the
USGS said.

There were no immediate reports of damage and the Pacific Tsunami
Warning Centre had not issued a tsunami warning.

Indonesia was the nation worst hit by the quake-triggered Asian tsunami
in December 2004 that killed 168,000 people in the country's Aceh province.
