Typhoon heads across Japan's main island*
TOKYO, Aug 4 (AFP) Aug 04, 2007
A typhoon that has battered Japan for two days swerved across the
northern tip of the main island of Honshu Saturday, officials said.
Packing winds of up to 65 kilometres (40 miles) an hour and bringing
heavy rains, Typhoon Usagi landed at Honshu's northern tip at about 1:00
pm (0400 GMT), the Japan Meteorological Agency said.
It was moving at 40 kilometres (25 miles) per hour toward the Pacific
Ocean and was expected to become a moderate depression by midnight, the
agency said.
No fresh injuries were reported Saturday after Usagi, meaning rabbit in
Japanese, left 18 people injured in its wake when it cut across the
southern island of Kyushu and the western tip of Honshu between late
Thursday and early Friday.
