Yachtsman, divers drown in rough weather off French coasts*
BREST, May 27 (AFP) May 27, 2007
Two divers and a yachtsman drowned Sunday in separate sea accidents
during rough weather off France's Atlantic and Channel coasts, local
authorities said.
The divers, belonging to a party of six, were probably caught in a
current undertow off the Brittany coast, while the four survivors had
managed to reach the shore, said a spokesman at the coastal prefecture
of Brest.
Rescue teams later brought the bodies ashore.
The yachtsman, whose identity and country of origin were not immediately
identified, fell from his vessel off the Finistere coast.
Crew members put out an SOS and a rescue team later recovered the body.
The exact circumstances of the accident were not immediately known, the
Brest spokesman said.
The yacht had been making a course for the port of Lorient.
Storms raged across western France on Sunday and forecasters put out
warnings of gales reaching a possible 120 kilometres (75 miles) an hour.
