A RUSSIAN woman training to be a nun is suspected of secretly giving
birth and then strangling the baby to death.

A statement from the Russian prosecutor general's office said an
ongoing investigation was launched after a tip-off from a priest at the
Svyato-Pokrovsky convent in the far eastern Amur region.

"Investigation of the cemetery (in the town of Tynda) turned up a baby
boy's corpse,'' the statement said, adding that the cause of death was
asphyxiation.
