Six die in Romania due to heat*

At least six people have died in Romania due to high temperatures which
rose above 35 degrees in parts of the country, local media reported
Wednesday.
Several men and women, all aged between 45 and 81, died Tuesday evening
in Braila in the east of the country.
"The deaths were caused by heart attacks due to the heat," the chief of
Braila's ambulance service was quoted as saying by Mediafax news agency.
The health ministry has warned elderly persons and those suffering from
heart problems to avoid going outdoors if possible.
Authorities will place 23 provinces in southern Romania on yellow alert,
the lowest level of warning, starting on Thursday as temperatures are
expected to reach 38 or 40 degrees by the end of the week.
Several towns like Timisoara in the west and Galati in the east have put
out first aid tents to tend to those affected by the heat wave.
