AUSTRALIA THUNDERSTORMS sparked 4000 bolts of lightning across
south-eastern NSW early this morning, as the state entered its severe
storm season.
The Riverina, south-west slopes and southern tablelands regions took a
beating from storms today, private lightning tracking company Global
Position and Tracking System reported.
Storm season has arrived and will bring with it erratic weather through
to April, Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) senior forecaster Neale Fraser said.
"From now on, right through the summer is the severe storm season," Mr
Fraser said.
"Certainly from October onwards until March or April next year is
potentially severe thunderstorm time."
Thunderstorms were forecast to hit central NSW today, while temperatures
around Sydney were tipped to peak at 34 degrees celsius.
Thunderstorms are expected to pass through the upper Hunter, north coast
and northern tablelands regions tomorrow before subsiding.
Showers are forecast for coastal areas of NSW during the weekend.
