A MAN burst into flames and died after he was shot with a Taser stun gun
by police in Texas.
Juan Flores Lopez, 47, died on Tuesday at a hospital in Texas, the
Associated Press reported.
Mr Lopez had doused himself in petrol during a stand-off at his home on
Monday and police, trying to subdue him when pepper spray failed,
ignited him instead.
Authorities were probing whether the Taser gun was the cause of the
fire. Police were looking at whether a lighter that was on the porch of
Mr Lopez's home could have contributed to the fire and whether Tasers
could ignite anything, Lieutenant Bob Bullock said.
Two of Mr Lopez's sons said their father had been threatening for months
to burn himself and his house.
His wife was seeking a divorce and he didn't want to have to leave the
house, they said.
Mr Lopez also said he'd put a bomb in the house, the AP quoted police as
saying.
