A 5.3 MANITUDE earthquake hit a northwestern Iranian province today but
there were no immediate reports of any casualties, Iranian news agencies
said.
"A relatively strong earthquake shook a large part of Zanjan province on
Tuesday morning,'' the official IRNA news agency said, adding frightened
people rushed outside to open areas and that telephone communications
were disrupted in some parts.
Iran is criss-crossed with fault lines and is regularly hit by earthquakes.
