Villages in France's northern Calais region were submerged under about a
metre (three feet) of water Sunday after overnight flooding, officials said.
The area, bordering the English Channel, was hit by a heavy summer
rainstorm that swelled creeks and rivers and cut several country roads.
One bridge, in the village of Clerques, collapsed.
In zones where the water had subsided, residents worked to clear layers
of mud from their homes.
There were no reports of casualties.
