Dead children found hidden under sink*

August 01, 2007 10:33am

* Woman's kids found dead under home sink
* Mother accused of leaving kids in hot car
* Asked police to kill her

AN AMERICAN woman has been charged with homicide by child abuse after
her two dead children were found wrapped in rubbish bags and stuffed
under a sink in her home.

It is the second such case in two days, after a Maryland woman was
charged with murder following the discovery of four fetuses at her home.

Accused of leaving kids in hot car

In the latest case, Sametta Heyward, 27, is accused of leaving her
one-year-old daughter and four-year-old son in a hot car while she went
to work in Charleston, South Carolina.

Police who responded to a disturbance her home on Monday night found Ms
Heyward crying and yelling, ''Oh, my babies'', according to a police report.

A man holding her told police: "The kids were in trash bags and under
the cabinet,'' the Associated Press reported.

"She stated she wanted to die and asked officers to kill her,'' the
report said.

Investigators found a note Ms Heyward left at her home, explaining that
she had arranged for a babysitter but when that fell through, she took
the children with her in the car to work in downtown Charleston, coroner
George Oliver said.

Post-mortems to determine how kids died

Post-mortem examinations would be carried out to determine how Triniti
Campbell, aged 1, and her 4-year-old brother Shawn Campbell Jr, died.

Mr Oliver said it had not been established where or when the children died.

Neighbour Brandon Coving said he saw Ms Heyward and the children on Sunday.

"They were running around, and she had a big smile on her face, and it
seemed like a regular day,'' he told the AP.

In the Maryland case, Christy Freeman, 37, appeared in a court yesterday
charged with the murder of a baby boy after police found the remains of
at least four premature babies at her home.

The remains were found hidden in rubbish bags and a towel, Ocean City
police said.
