Baghdad car bomb death toll rises to 65*

The death toll from a devastating car bomb explosion in Baghdad
yesterday has risen to 65, Iraqi police said today.
Four children and five women were among those killed by the blast, which
US forces blamed on rogue Shia militia.
Another 75 people were injured when the car bomb exploded near a crowded
market in the predominantly Shia neighbourhood of al-Hurriya, in the
north-west of Baghdad.
The bombing was the deadliest in the Iraqi capital for three months.
Lieutenant Colonel Steve Stover, a US forces spokesman, blamed the
attack on a "special groups" cell – a term for Shia militants believed
to be backed by Iran.
Stover said the bombing was intended to incite violence between Shias
and Sunnis.
