A 77-YEAR-old Japanese man said today he had killed his entire family,
including a four-year-old granddaughter, after four bludgeoned bodies
were found at his home, police and news reports said.
The man was found passed out at the family home wearing blood-smeared
clothes, with a hammer dropped near the kitchen.
The man had allegedly telephoned police early in the morning in Kashiwa,
northeast of Tokyo, and said he had killed four people in his family,
Jiji Press news agency said.
He said he had been troubled by his own illness, the report said.
Police could not confirm the report, but said they found the bodies of
four people who were "injured in the head".
"The dead people are believed to be the family" of the man, who is the
sole survivor, a Kashiwa police spokesman said. He was living with his
wife, 75, son, 49, the son's wife, 44, and the four-year-old grandchild.
