Earthquake Rattles Central Mexico*

The Associated Press
Tuesday, November 6, 2007; 2:25 AM

MEXICO CITY -- Parts of central Mexico were rattled by a moderate
earthquake of between 5.4 and 5.7 magnitude early Tuesday, authorities
said, but there were no immediate reports of injuries or serious damage.

The temblor hit just after midnight and was centered in the Pacific
coast state of Guerrero, near the resort city of Acapulco, according to
the U.S. Geological Survey, which measured the magnitude at 5.4.

Mexico's National Seismological Service placed the epicenter in the same
general area, but reported the intensity of the quake as 5.7.

Authorities in Acapulco initially reported only a minor gas leak in a
building as a result of the temblor; it was quickly controlled.
