An 11-year-old boy was attacked and killed by a black bear on Sunday
night as he slept in a tent with his family, police said.
The boy, sleeping alone in a section of the large tent, screamed before
he was dragged away in his sleeping bag in American Fork Canyon, about
30 miles south-east of Salt Lake City, said the sheriff's office. The
boy's body was found just a few hundred metres away from a campground
where a bear was spotted recently. Authorities are hunting the creature.
The family was camping about two miles up a track from a popular camping
site.
