Way back in the before time (since we're doing references), there was a
mailing list run from a server named barley, and it came to be at that
time, that pretty much everyone in the area took to using it instead of
starting separate lists; a community formed. Over time many things
changed, but not the uptime on the list, which was never down for more
than a few hours even during server changes. Then the list went down
early in the month, and many in the community probably didn't hear of
that until now, but it's been gone.

It would be shame to lose this community, and now that won't happen.
