lewmar hatch friction lever. advice is needed

The friction lever did disconnect from the Lewmar hatch frame (two rivets broke).

I think it is Ocean hatch (judging by pictures on Lewmar website)

I have tried to attach the lever by using pop rivets of the same size I found on Lewmar web site without any success. There is not enough room for a rivet body on the other side of the frame (which is inaccessible). And, it does not look like that broken part of the rivet is on the way,

I am wondering if somebody had the problem like this and how it was fixed.

Again, I am guessing that I have to use pop rivets. Pictures are below
