Hi all,

An improvement I'm considering while my mast is down is to add a spinnaker halyard.  Currently, there is no hardware at the mast head to run the halyard, so I presumably need add a block to run the halyard.  Has anyone done this with their Bene?  Reading the manual (last resort, of course), it is very clear that the spinnaker halyard was an option when the boat was originally built, so I'm hopeful that it's a simple addition.  Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find the parts I need in B's online parts system - I was hoping they'd be in a diagram…

I have an email out to Ward, but in the meantime, do any of you have experience that might help?  My boat is a 2000 B311

Thanks!
Erik

Just doing the same on my 323 and I note there is a sheave on my mast built in to the fitting where the forestry attached.  Much of what I am reading suggests you are better off adding a spinnaker crane -- essentially a fitting that provides a way for the halyard to go to a block that gets better clear of the mast.  Google "spinnaker crane" for more info.  And assuming you have a US Spars mast, their website is quite helpful, and if you call them they can give you detailed info.

Erik;
If you look at the US Spar website you can find your mast section and get all the info you will need.
That's what I did for our 331, and the biggest cost was the halyard.

I second the addition of the spinnaker crane fitting -- it stands the
block for the spin halyard clear of the forestay and reduces chafe
potential at the masthead by allowing the block to pivot freely. I
does complicate the installation a bit, and add the cost of a block as
well as the crane fitting, but is worth it in my opinion. On my Isomat
spar the crane fitting was a simple bolt on plate.
