Does anyone know of a place in north or central Florida (or south Georgia) that replaces the lenses in Lewmar Ocean hatches?  It seems that you cannot buy the lenses.  Select Plastics in Norwalk, CT will replace the lens, gasket, o-ring, and seal if we ship the hatch cover to them for $294 plus shipping both ways.  We have 3 that need replacing.

Anyone successful in finding a better solution?  Thanks in advance.

I ordered O.E.M replacement parts from P2 Marine   http://www.p2marine.com/sailing-gear/lewmar/lewmar-hatch-parts.shtml

It is pretty easy to do the replacements yourself when you get the parts.  I did 5 hatches on our 473 and was very happy.

Thanks, Jeff.  I called P2 Marine and they quoted me $442.81 each for just the lens, and stated that it was more trouble than it was worth – that we would be better off replacing the entire hatch!  Select Plastics is sounding better and better at this point.

I had Select Plastics repairing the bow hatch on our previous boat. Turned out to be a really nice clean job. I figured by the time I source the materials and add my labor, it would be close or more than what they charged.

Uwe,
I'm a bit curious about how to go about the hatch repair using select plastics. If you sent the hatch off, how long did it take?. And how did you seal the opening?

Cooper,

When I did it, plywood, 2x4’s and a few long bolts.  Cut the plywood bigger than the hole, and the amount of water getting in will be minimal.

Off season, during layup, of course.

Do some checking

By the time you pay a little shipping to get the hatch to Select and back I think you can buy a new one cheaper

Select Plastic does a good job however not cheap

Your hatch might be an Ocean however check as most if not all of the Beneteau Lewmar hatches were Low Profile or Trim line

Ocean has different radius on the corners and much more money

When I called, the technician explained all the available options and made recommendations which was really helpful. Instead of just replacing the glass, he ended up rebuilding the complete lid. They have a very good idea what the weak areas are of the different designs. I picked ground transportation which took 10 days total. My property was returned as scheduled with cleaning materials and written instructions on how to protect and get the most out of it down the road.

I was able to seal the open hatch perfect with trash bag material cut to size and secured with blue scotch tape.

Again, I could not have done it for the quoted price and they did a professional job.

We have one low profile in the main salon, but the other 3 are definitely Ocean hatches.  I’ve compared the photos and specs to confirm.  Thanks.

Call marine liquators in Fort Pierce Fla

They bought all the Lewmar Hatchs when Lewmar sold to the new owner.

They have a couple of hundred or more.

Thanks Mike.  We have no layup time in our area so I think I can work out some sort of seal that allows us to use our boat during the time when the hatch is out
