First off, thank you to Harrison and Kulshan Brewing for hosting our meeting this month. We really appreciate your support!
Another month brought great turnout and participation in our club competition. This month's theme was German-style beers, and we had eight excellent entries. Congratulations to Casey Gish for taking home the People's Choice Award with his Helles! Casey has been on quite a streak lately with outstanding beers.
Speaking of Casey and great beers, his collaboration with North Fork (a prize for a previous People's Choice-winning Helles) goes on tap Thursday, June 25. They brewed a Hazy IPA with more oats and hops than North Fork has ever used in a beer before, pushing their system to its limits.
Come join fellow club members for a pint (and probably a few slices of pizza) at the release party, or stop in sometime over the next month on your way home from a summer hike at Baker to try it. This is also a great opportunity for us townies to carpool out there, so don't hesitate to reach out if you'd like to coordinate a ride.
The Best of the Bay entry window is now open. Register your beer entries or sign up to help judge or steward. Entries will be accepted until July 22 or until we reach the entry cap, whichever comes first - so there's no need to wait until the last minute.
And speaking of Best of the Bay, as the awards ceremony on August 9 is also a homebrew festival, we need YOU to donate some kegs of homebrew to bring and share, and NOW is a good time to start thinking about brewing something for it.
Sharing homebrew with each other is the basic foundation of our club, and the festival is really a celebration of that. Every year, members show up expecting to sample great homebrew from their fellow brewers, but if everyone assumes someone else will bring the beer, we won't have much of a festival. We need broad participation from the club to make this event a success, so please start thinking about what you can contribute.
As always, there will be a coveted People's Choice Award, and besides bragging rights, maybe it could be your beer on tap somewhere around town next year (actual prize not yet determined).
We've mentioned that we'd like feedback from you - the community - on what is working well in the club and what could be improved. Our survey is ready to go, so watch for a separate communication coming soon.
Finally, it's baseball season, and summer baseball pairs pretty well with good beer. We're working on organizing a club outing to a Bellingham Bells game in July. Official beer providers to the Bells this year include Larabee Lager and Kulshan Brewing, two of our local favorites! We know there's no single date that will work for everyone, but we'll be announcing plans soon so you can get it on your calendars. Stay tuned!
