Thanks again to Jason and Stemma Brewing for supporting us by providing a meeting location! It was great to see so many people turn out for our second meeting of the year after a quiet January. If you weren’t able to make it (or were there but not paying attention) here’s a rundown of what you missed.

First, congratulations to Casey Gish for being the 2025 BHG Homebrewer of the Year!!! Casey consistently racked up points throughout the year for fantastic beers in our club comps and Best of the Bay. We technically announced this first at the January meeting, but he wasn’t there so now it’s official. He attributed his win to “hard work, blood, sweat, and tears”.

Our first club comp of the year was “English style beers” and had a high participation rate with eight entries ranging from bitters to porters to “historical”. Congratulations to Neal for being the People’s Choice favorite with his Oatmeal Stout! Also congratulations on a second place tie to Todd Q with a Best Bitter and first time meeting attendee Dean with a Porter. It was a good flight of beers across the board.

Upcoming Events:

  • - Last year’s Best of the Bay winner Thomas Weichert recently brewed his prize collaboration batch with Larabee Lager and it’s on tap there now! Join the club at Larabee on Thursday February 26 to have a pint of their “Spring Lager” and hang out.
  • - On March 8th Stones Throw will be releasing a International Women's Day collaboration beer led by Alex from the North Fork that our own new member Amy participated in. Join us for a pint to celebrate the release!
  • - The National Homebrew Competition entry window is now open. Register now to participate in the largest beer competition in the world! Must be an AHA member to enter.
  • - The NHC completion is also looking for judges to help on April 17/18 at Black Raven Brewing in Woodinville.
  • - Speaking of April 18th, that will be the date for this year’s April Brews Day beer festival, which was brought up as a topic of conversation at the meeting. The BHG doesn’t have any formal connection to the event (though we have participated in collab beers served at it), though there might be some renewed interest in attending after most people have taken several years off from it. Apparently they’ll be announcing a new location for it soon.
  • - Looking out to summer, mark your calendar now for the weekend of August 8/9 for the annual BHG Best of the Bay homebrew competition. More details about that will come in the spring.

Speaking of upcoming events, did you know the club maintains a public calendar of events that you can subscribe to? Subscribe to the following url in your phone/computer calendar app and always be up to date with days/times/locations of club meetings and events.

And if you're not part of our Slack group already, consider joining. We'll continue to share out announcements to a variety of different platforms to try to meet people where they're at, but Slack tends to be where the random member discussions are happening these days.
