Beledi Club - December Update!
Beledi Club
First of all, the Toys for Tots show occured on November 18 and we
raised $825 in cash for the program as well as collected over $300
worth of toys. Thanks to everyone who came out and donated items,
performance, time, support, etc for this event. Kassar, Sulukule, and
the Rainbow Dancers were wonderful in coming from out of town and
performing at this event! Mark your calendars for the 4th Annual
scheduled for November 17. Silent Auction, Show, and food again!
The club also had a wonderful workshop featuring our friend and former
club member Lissa McFaddin on Saturday, December 2. If you missed the
workshop, then you missed out on learning a fabulous new choreography
that had "DRAMA QUEEN" attititude all over it. She performed the dance
that evening at the Christmas Hafla. Wonderful work and wonderful
person! As a reminder, the music is Track 4 on the Bellydance
Superstars Volume 3 CD that you can find at Best Buy or most online
music stores.
So, onto the summary of Beledi Club and related Alabama happenings...
CLASSES: Polly (aka Belilah - www.belilahonline.com) may have had her
classes cancelled in Pulaski, TN. She was be teaching at JM Degas -
930 North 1st
Street - Pulaski, TN (931) 363-2188. Call in case this news is not
correct.
The last class at Dublin Park will be Tuesday, December 12 for both Liz
and Sallye's classes. Classes will resume on January 9 (or whatever
the second Tuesday of the month in January is). The Basic Class that
Liz is teaching runs from 6 - 7 pm and will be a slower paced
Bellydance Class to learn the basics - open to all levels of dance
experience but especially geared towards people with no experience.
The Intermediate Class that Sallye is teaching runs from 7:15 - 8:45
pm. Instructor approval is required before joining this class.
Sallye is still teaching Basic Belly Dance Technique on Tuesday
mornings from 10:15 to 11:15 at The Studio 1219 C Jordan Lane ($25 a
month or $8 per class) and the last class will be December 19. This
class is open to all levels of dance experience.
The last class Liz is teaching at the Studio will be this Thursday,
December 14th and classes will resume on January 4. The ongoing
BellyDance Technique class at the Studio on Thursday Evenings from 6pm
to 7:15pm will be geared for dancers with some experience in
bellydancing and will start to focus on strengthening the core muscles
as well as polishing up technique and combos and we will start working
on choreographies. Check out Liz's website at www.shahala.com under
classes for more details on what will be taught. Starting in January,
Liz will be teaching a 5 week Basic Bellydance Course. This class will
start Thursday, Jan 4 and run until Feb 1, from 7:30 - 8:30 pm at The
Studio. The 5 week Basic Bellydance Course will cost $30. This class
session will be cancelled if a min of 5 people has not been met. No
prior bellydance experience is necessary.
Lisa's class is on Wednesday from 6pm to 7pm for basic technique (she
will gear the class to the level of the students and it is basic and
beginning at this point) and 7 to 7:30 Belly Fusion students will learn
to connect and dance with a partner in class. It is required to take
technique class to participate in partner class. $25 a month or $8
drop-in. If you have any questions, you can call LISA WYLIE
256-318-0169. Lisa will be teaching throughout the month of December,
but she plans on taking off the month of January.
There is still a drum jam practice session on Wednesday nights after
the
7:30 class. People interested in learning to drum with Middle Eastern
rhythyms are invited.
BELLYDANCE DAY:
The Beledi Club's annual Bellydance Day is scheduled for Saturday,
January 27 at The Studio from 1 - 5 pm. This is a time to come meet
club members, take a free lesson, see some performances (or even come
out and perform), buy items at the market (some are new, others are
gently used - bring items to sell or trade), fashion show, and more!
Check the website for details as they are finalized.
WORKSHOPS:
At THE STUDIO: ARTEMIS is returning to ALABAMA! Come out and learn
from this master dancer at The Studio for a one day workshop on
Saturday, January 13! She will also be available for private lessons.

HAFLAS/PERFORMANCES:
January 13: Roaring Twenty's Hafla at The Studio. Liz is hosting this
theme party at The Studio. Contact her for information on how to get

MEETING:
The next business meeting will be held on Monday, January 8. The place
is still TBD. If you are interested in attending, please contact the

club member before the meeting date. The next meeting, we will be
nominating for new officers.
