Hope everyone is well. Sorry if you received this message twice, we
have two email lists (one for discussion, one for announcements
only). I post meeting announcements on both because several people
stated that they didn't get the discussion list emails.
I have two meetings to announce. One is for 'Networking Is Fun' a
new group that I am part of that is trying to make working for a
better world fun again! *happy laughter*
The second is for the Olympia Ecovillage!
I would like to invite everyone to the Film, Art and Music Lover's
United Non-Corporate Network.
The Fun Network was created to increase the joy and diversity of film,
art and music by taking control from corporations and placing creative
control back into the hands of filmmakers, artists, musicians and
their fans.
The Fun Network desires to increase outreach to people of all racial,
social and financial backgrounds... and to have fun while doing it!
Wooooohoooo!
How would being a member of the fun network help me as a filmmaker,
artist, or musician?
Capitalism and corporate greed has caused some of the best, most
radical and creative filmmakers, artists and musicians to go
unnoticed. By creating a network that promotes mutual-aid, bartering
and gift economy sharing among the fun network members, we hope to
create a better world.
The fun network is member-driven, so we hope to set-up fun network
branches throughout the world.
We have countless benefits for filmmakers, artists and musicians but
our greatest benefit is to connect filmmakers, artists and musicians
with completely free-of-charge services around the world! This
includes free submissions of film to film festivals, art to art shows,
and music to music events, shows, contests and much more! Many
corporate networks have caused submission fees to keep the most
creative people from networking. The fun network is here to change
that!
How would being a member of the fun network help me as an organizer of
film festivals, art events, or music events?
We also have many benefits for film festivals, art events, and music
events but our most incredible benefit is to increase the film, art
and music submissions that your events receive! This increases the
number of submissions and diversity in your events, and it helps film
festivals, art shows and music shows by providing free publicity for
all involved. Also, by providing a network promoting mutual-aid and
bartering, the fun netwrok also can provide your event with more
reliable staff who are more willing and happier to share their art,
music and filmmaking talent than a multi-national corporation.

The fun network is a member driven organization. We are currently
having regular meetings and conducting workshops and presentations at
conferences nationwide as we endeavor to transform the fun network
into a co-op organization. Even if you can only provide volunteer
help from home (email support, telephone support, wiki building
support) your help would be appreciated.

The second meeting announcement is below:
Community Build-It! Convergence and Potluck
Date: Saturday, May 26th, 2007
Time: Meeting runs from 2pm-5pm. (It actually runs from 2pm-4pm, but
I will stick around until 5pm just in case anyone wants to talk more
in depth. Several people stayed and had conversations for about 2
hours after the March meeting and some people later told me they felt
like wanted to talk more so thats why it goes until 5pm this time).
Location: Olympia Freeschool Building, 610 Columbia Street, Olympia,
WA 98501
A Map of the location is found here: www.weinviteyou.org.
This event is completely free of charge. If you are interested in
building and living in ecovillages, housing co-ops, landtrusts,
affordable student housing, tent cities, educational housing, hostels
or any type of shared housing group, please join us at this event! You
are encouraged to bring your ideas and proposals regarding building a
new community. We also greatly welcome those who are just curious or
interested in living in a community and planning the creation of a
community. Thank you.
If you are in an activist or community group and would like to make a
10 minute presentation just show up (and give one starting at the
presentation time). We have the room reserved for several hours.
If you are a musician or band that can play acoustic, non-electric
music and would like to give a 10 minute performance just show up (and
give one starting at 4pm). Sorry, we can not have performances that
are electric or very loud because of the building restrictions.
Families and children are always very welcome.
It is a Finger-food (snack food) Potluck style meeting. Someone
brought some homemade soy-coconut milk, homemade Salsa and Hummus and
other treats at one of our last meetings which was greatly
appreciated.
This event is free and open to all. As we are an ecovillage group,
please bring your own cups, silverware and plates to cut down on
disposable plates/utensils. This will also cut down on dishwashing for
others.
Bring fruits (grapes, tangerines, oranges, etc), vegetables (cherry
tomatoes, etc.,) if you have no idea what to bring. Cookies, chips and
hummus are always popular and disappear quickly so bring plenty! If
you bring a prepared dish be certain to list ingredients on an index
card or small sheet of paper especially if dairy (including butter,
eggs, etc.,) or peanuts were used.
Thanks everyone! I hope to see you all at one or both of the events,
Love for the people,
-T
p.s.
If you are interested in helping to organize an Olympia Ecovillage
