For you motor heads, here is something you may or may not be interested in. Not to be mistaken for the Grand Prix Festival in September.

“RACING THUNDER” RELEASES SCHEDULE OF EVENTS

WATKINS GLEN, NY:  Watkins Glen and Montour Falls will welcome race fans from near and far as “Racing Thunder” brings the thrill of racing to Schuyler County for three straight days, beginning on August 6th

Each day of “Racing Thunder” is free and open to the public, and runs from 3:00 to 9:00 pm., highlighting a different location in the county.  All locations feature show cars, racing simulators, racing collectibles, children’s activities, music, food vendors, and more.

New to the festivities this year are the NASCAR Heroes, bringing NASCAR’s comic book characters to life, which is sure to delight race fans young and old. The Heroes will be making an appearance each of the three days of the event.

On Wednesday, August 6, “Thunder in the Glen” will showcase Seneca Harbor Park in Watkins Glen.  Area wineries and the Finger Lakes Scenic Railway will add to the excitement of the waterfront.  The train will depart the harbor station at 3:30, 5:30 and 7:30 pm; tickets for the scenic ride are for $14 for adults; $10 for children and seniors.  For more information, visit Finger Lakes Scenic Railway at www.fingerlakesscenicrailway.com.

On Thursday, August 7, “Thunder in the Falls” will take place on beautiful Main Street in Montour Falls.  A classic and antique car show will adorn the street, together with a variety of local stock cars.  The Montour Falls Fire Department will be open for tours, and will be hosting fire truck rides from 5:00 to 9:00 pm.

On Friday, August 8, “Thunder in the Streets” will bring the festivities to the sidewalks of Franklin Street in downtown Watkins Glen. The US Postal Service will offer its free, special pictorial stamp cancellation, commemorating the event, as well as passport applications.  There will be live music with the band “Road Soda” from 4:00 to 7:00 pm.

“Racing Thunder” is sponsored by HSBC Bank and is coordinated by the Schuyler County Chamber of Commerce / Watkins Glen Promotions, along with volunteers from across Schuyler County.  For more information, or to volunteer, contact the Schuyler County Chamber of Commerce / Watkins Glen Promotions at (607) 535-3003 or email eve...@schuylerny.com.
