SPECIAL POSTAL CANCELLATION FOR RACING THUNDER
WATKINS GLEN, NY - The U.S. Postal Service has announced that for its third consecutive year, there will be a special pictorial stamp cancellation at "Thunder in the Streets" on Friday, August 8th, from 3:00 to 9:00 pm. The event, held along Franklin Street in Watkins Glen, is part of the 3-day "Racing Thunder" extravaganza that welcomes NASCAR fans to Schuyler County with family-friendly activities, music and motor racing excitement for three days in a row!
The festival begins with "Thunder in the Glen" on Wednesday, August 6th, at Seneca Harbor Park in Watkins Glen, moves to Main Street in Montour Falls for "Thunder in the Falls" on Thursday, August 7th, and returns to Watkins Glen for "Thunder in the Streets" on Friday, August 8th. Each day of "Racing Thunder" is free and open to the public, and runs from 3:00 pm to 9:00 pm.
In addition to hosting its unique stamp cancellation, the U.S. Postal Service Local Quality Work Life Employee Team Midlakers #6, from the Western New York District, will be taking passport applications and will have innovative shipping methods on display for local growers and businesses.
The "Racing Thunder" 3-day event, sponsored by HSBC Bank, is coordinated by the Schuyler County Chamber of Commerce / Watkins Glen Promotions, along with volunteers from across Schuyler County. For more Racing Thunder information, contact the Schuyler County Chamber of Commerce at (607) 535-3003 or email eve...@schuylerny.com.
NOTE: A postal cancellation is a postal marking applied to a stamp or stationery, indicating that the item has been used. This is normally a circle with lines to the right of it. On August 8th the post office will be creating a unique stamp to honor the Racing Thunder festivities. Collectors will have a chance to have a piece of mail stamped at the Watkins Glen post office, with this commemorative image, from 3-9 p.m.
