Subject: reminder: green grand prix 09 is saturday!

5th Annual Green Grand Prix Saturday, May 2

WATKINS GLEN – The Green Grand Prix has since 2005 been focused on one of the hottest issues today: vehicle fuel efficiency and alternate fuel sources.

On Saturday, May 2, the 5th annual Green Grand Prix continues the fulfillment of its mission: to promote awareness of environmentally friendly vehicles and fuels through educational activities and motoring events.

A road rally and a fuel economy run in the morning involve drivers and their vehicles. Around noon, they will all gather at the Watkins Glen Elementary School parking lot on Decatur Street, near the sponsoring International Motor Racing Research Center, for the afternoon Green Expo.

The Expo, enhanced this year by Schuyler County Earth Day activities, ends at 5 p.m.

All Green Grand Prix events bring together a diverse mix of vehicles and their owners, businesses promoting renewable energy and related products, environmental groups, students and faculty members from elementary to university level and the general public.

Some of this year’s highlights:

~ A solar cell car built by high school students at Newburgh (NY) Free Academy will be participating in the Chicago-Soft Green Grand Prix Fuel Economy Run, presented by Race-cars.com, driving 80 miles around Seneca Lake.

~ A General Motors hydrogen fuel cell car has been offered to Green Grand Prix organizers as an entry in the Fuel Economy Run. Organizers have invited Congressman Eric Massa to drive the car.

~ Elmira businessman John Cadwallader will again be driving his LP-powered 1933 Ford pickup truck in one of the events.

~ Hundreds of area children have submitted designs for the Student Alternate Fuel Design Contest, sponsored by the Glen Region Sports Car Club of America. All of the designs will be displayed in the hallways of the Watkins Glen Elementary School.

Details for the day can be found at the Green Grand Prix website at   www.greengrandprix.com.
