Get involved in Earth Hour 2008: Saturday, March 29 from 8:00 – 9:00 pm
On March 31, 2007 in Sydney, Australia 2.2 million people and 2,100 businesses turned off their lights and appliances for one hour in a collective statement about energy usage, planetary health and personal responsibility. Iconic structures of Sydney real estate like the Harbour Bridge and Opera House powered down for the first time in history and in this single hour, the people of Sydney generated over 10% in energy savings…and the rest of the world took notice.
As a result, individuals, municipalities and businesses around the globe are participating in Earth Hour 2008, the world’s first collective statement about global warming. The event will occur from 8:00 pm to 9:00 pm in your time zone. At the time of publication, over 16,400 businesses and nearly 228,000 individuals worldwide have committed to powering down for one hour.
We encourage you to observe Earth Hour
in your local office by turning off all non-essential lights, computers, kitchen and office equipment upon your departure on Friday, March 28. If you are in the office on Saturday, March 29, please employ the same approach during this one history-making hour.
In the US, four key cities are partnering with Sydney to observe Earth Hour 2008: Atlanta, Chicago, Phoenix and San Francisco. Additionally, Earth Hour events are being held in more than two dozen US cities including Charlotte, Denver, Honolulu, Miami, Minneapolis and St. Louis.
In these and other local market Earth Hour activities across the country, we encourage group or individual participation in a way that is meaningful to you.
