After having managed training for the Madikeri-Wayanad distance without hitting the wall etc, am looking forward to the next big one - the Ooty climb.

Some prelim qns wrt this - esp to those who've done it on a bike:

1. is the TFN on the Masinagudi route ? Even my car protests there with a full load....
2. how do the gradients compare with Nandi Hills ?
3. the unbroken ascents are much longer than the 9 kms up NHills, I guess :)

Any other tips for training for this are welcome.

Rgds,
Sameer

2. how do the gradients compare with Nandi Hills ?

Ravi > Last 1 Km on Nandi is around 7-8%. Now you can gauge it.

3. the unbroken ascents are much longer than the 9 kms up NHills, I guess :)

Ravi > Yah. Nut you can always take a brake inbetween.

Any other tips for training for this are welcome.

Ravi > Keep training. More time on saddle will give you more confidance.

The gradients is slightly higher on the ooty climb. (about 7% in some stretches).

Yup there is a 20km climb on the Gudalur Ooty route on TFN Day 4.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Pradeep, Ravi.

Sounds like the Nandi Climb did have similar gradients at the end, and 20kms is not *that* much more - esp since the Gudalur stretch, from what I've heard, is less "hairpinny" than the Masinagudi route -
which probably means more traffic and easier roads.

Sameer
