Hi all,
Hats off to the Volunteers ,Organisers and the great enthu participants of Bangalore Bicycle Championships.
It was an wonderful event.Being a newbie like me ,learnt lot of stuffs from meeting various people today.,
I am not sure ,whether its right time or not after the rules are being decided and one race being over, One suggestion would be ,since we have  RoadBikes and MTB's list can we have 2 catogeries for Ranking(points).Because RoadBikers are flying higher than MTB's and there will not be any chance for the  MTB riders to climb up the points table.
Let you guys decide !!!

------------

Vikram, don't worry, we will have some offroad events where the roadbikers will be at a disadvantage. Unless they come on a MTB.

Take a look at this link : http://groups.google.co.in/group/Bangalore-bikers/web/bangalore-bicycle-championships

Theres no pre requisite on the kind of bike required..Get any bike you are comfortable with..

The only thing you need to get is a HELMET. Please get a helmet everyone, theres no point regretting not getting one after something happens.

yes..i think its very important to make good helmets compulsory not just for events like these but also on critical mass rides if possible,i say if because there are new people comin for critical mass rides..but for events absolute must..i saw a person without helmet yesterday during the event, sets bad precedents..

Hi Jagan and team
Thanks for organising this fabulous event and thanks so very much for
accomodating my late start (I was stranded on ORR for 2 hours with a
broken chain link and had to wait while Naveen fixed it).
I think you have my name down wrong as "Avinash"- I'm assuming that's
me because I don't see any time splits and I believe I was the only
one to ride without the split timings.

Once again, commendations on a job well done and looking forward to
more such events.

PS Could you also make the necessary changes in the standings table?

Thanks and regards

Arvind Bhateja

Hats off to you Arvind. You did land at the venue and did take part and complete the Time trial. Fantastic !
We will change the name in the standings table :)

@sriram - Helmets will be mandatory - dunno about the Critical Mass, but for races we will definitely ensure that helmets are mandatory.

@sri - Harsha had some interesting thoughts on the race standings - he said he would post up his thoughts

Well, I sat with the spreadsheet, broken hearted that I am not the fastest MTB rider around :)  Nelly, I am gonna belt you in next TT man :D

And I found some interesting stuff.

In Road bikers, there are 5 riders (Rohan Kini, Avinash, Ullas, Ravi Ranjan Kumar and Jaleel )  with their total time in the range 25 - 26 minutes, similarly on MTBs, there are four riders (Pankaj, Stanzin, Murthy and Sri Harsha) in with total time of 30-31 minutes.

Just imagine you guys, had you peddled little harder, ate few more eggs in the previous night you could have gained few more places hence the points !!

So, it's already a close fight, with timings varying in only few seconds!!

Cheers!!
Sri Harsha

PS: Any one ready to gift me a Trek 1.5 ??

Hey Harsha,

a) It is Arvind Bhateja and not Avinash.

b) I was the 'official' timekeeper but I used my old trusty Casio watch. Imagine how close timings would have been had Rolex or Breguet sponsored a high tech watches to record timing. We could have timed people down to the hundredth of a second.

c) It was a windy day.

d) There was traffic. Usually in TTs teams and riders get to do a recce of the route before the race. This hadnt happened either. Samim nearly went into a off road track. I am sure had ppl seen the route earlier they could have been faster as they'd have known where to push, take it easy and give it everything they got.

e) Its not about Road bikes only...  put slick tyres on your MTB and you can easily beat me even if I am going flat out on my 1.5. Its not about the bike man... its just that every second counts.

Are you saying that rider ability and fitness had something to do with the times? No way, it must be the bikes with their thin tires, higher gearing and aerodynamic positions. Otherwise, how do you explain a couple of fat unfit guys like Samim and Sriram being almost 8 minutes faster than the superfit MTB bunch?

While I don't completely buy the argument of "It's not about the bike", I am a n00b, so I might be wrong :)
