Hi Folks! First of all i want to thank Rohan,Venky,Venkat(Tall Guy) for guiding me and giving some Gyan on the cycling and i would like to thank all the BBC Members for posting such a wonderful and useful information in the forum for all the cycling enthusiasts.

Am in this forum from past 3 months, I have been a silent spectator gaining vast amounts of Gyans from you cycling pros. The forum has proved to be extremely useful for me to decide on my bike.

Initially i have decided to buy Firefox Target, After visiting Firefox Bike station at CMH road and chickpets dealers i felt that firefox dealers need training on their soft skills & on how to treat customer. As a customer we will be thinking twice when we are investing such a money on bicycle!

After goggling around, found BOTS(Thank for Rohan and Co for creating such lovely blogspot)
Well after getting to know about trek brand and as per Rohan suggestion i tried to stretch my budget to buy trek 3700 as its a better entry level bike, Some how i was convinced myself to go for Trek 4300(Orange) especially looking at the paint job and the matt finish of the bike. i must say its a eye candy :)

My bad luck it was out of stock!! Before all this i have dome some home work and short listed the bikes which is best in the class.

Trek 3700(RED), Trek (4300), Merida 40 V Or Merida 40 MD were the choice I made.

Finally one day it happened to visit Venky's shop and purchased MY MERIDA MATTS SUB 40 MD from Wheel Sports, Merida Junction.
I was completely decided to buy TREK 4300, due to some personal choice on color i had to drop it :( Never the less my roomy is going to buy trek 4300 Orange or Silver in short. We can exchange daily :)

MY REVIEW ON MERIDA 40 MD

Merida bike looks good as you can see from the photographs. All the components in the bike are made up of good quality materials and feel like they are worth for the money. Looks Trendy and decent. I used to own a Hercules TOP GEAR and Hercules MTB before this and the bike was as heavy, But this bike is light weight and easier to handle.

Front forks RST Gila have lockup feature. Suspension is the best in this bike, You can feel the difference in one ride

Front and rear Shimano Mechanical disk brakes have a excellent braking power and they look damn cool.

The bike has saddle, front and rear wheel quick release like any other high end bikes have.

Shimano shifters. Excellent and easy to use.

Shimano front and rear derailleur give a smooth shifting. Some times it makes sound thud!!! Need to adjusted since cables tends to expand in new bike after 100 KMS or so..

Saddle is sleek and i feel its bit hard, As per Venky i should get used to it for couple of weeks. Let me see :) Will write my second review after few short and long rides.

Bike doesn't comes with side stand, It’s a extra accessories, Having a side stand is personal choice, Like i care not to lean my bike on wall side and get starched :)

To conclude am very happy with the bike. Easy handling and light weight, i can
after my ride to my room which is on 3rd floor :).
Will join some of you guys for a long ride sometime later.

Happy Cycling

Hey Manju,
Congrats for your bike and you did a wise job of consulting Rohan and
Venky.
It could have been a job unfinished if you had sticked to other
firefox stations.

You need to get used to the hard saddle and you will feel better
soon.
Try using a bike short, that would help you a lot ( we would not
suf=ggest you to go for the seat covers though :-) )

Happy riding :-)

regards,
Badri

Both bikes are equally good, its a hard call to say which is the best among those! Please check your budget limit and type of ride you do. Consult bumsonthesaddle or wheelsports for more info, they would be glad to hear from you.

"However i dont understand the concept of hard saddle yet :) "

When you are pedalling hard, if you have a soft, cozy saddle, chances
are that the saddle takes all the pressure and you'll find a bit
difficult to keep your pedalling rolling. If your saddle is solid
(read: hard saddle), it'll not allow your bum to settle in the cusion,
instead, keeps your bum sit steadily on the saddle, rather than
getting sinked into the seat.

Cheers!!

Hi Manjunath,

Congratulations on your new bike.

I see that everyone os going for a mountain bike, i went for a city
bike QUICK 5 and its good, but the Bangalore roads give me a touch
time and with the hard saddle it becomes even worse. Thankfully now i
bought bike shorts and its much better.

One other thing you can do is get bike gloves (or what ever they are
called) because if you are on a high saddle most of the weight comes
on the hands and after a while the palms start hurting (or may be i am
doing something wrong).

By the way, when is the next PROPER BIKE RIDING classes?

Best H

Hi Hitesh,
Thanks a lot, Well hand gloves are required very much.. After doing 200+ my hands are gone numb. Feeling like something is going to pop out of my plam.
Will buy a pair of gloves ASAP. Do have any idea of the price of gloves ?

Cheers

Try the shop in Kormangala (Track & Trail) they have gloves from
Bianchi and Cannondale. i prefer the Cannondale because they are not
flashy at all (i got mine for 29 USD). Also there is a Hercules
showroom on the way from BTM to MG road (i saw this while biking
yesterday). here you will find a cheaper alternative.

Also Track and Trail has Cannondale cycling shorts right now (not the
Bibs), they are good and a relief from the painful saddle. Also i
think Venky is in Singapore. I got a mail from him yesterday regarding
a Bike i need.
