Guys (and hopefully some gals soon),
I have been thinking about some fun places to ride and here is my partial list:

1. Mysore-Chamundi Hills: The traffic on the hill is quite bearable. The road is divided for most part and is reasonably wide. The gradient is constant and it will be a quick downhill. To make this ride interesting we should do like a clover pattern. Go up till almost the top, branch right at the Nandi and go all the way down, come back, go to the top, turn around, and on the way down take a right and go down the Nanjangud road, turn around and come back up and finally come down to starting point. The loop maybe 20 to 30KM and we could do 2 laps :-)
The scenery is gorgeous and the downhill speed only limited by our lack of intelligence. I have run up and down here and always wanted to try biking.
We can go up some Saturday night and do the ride early morning, have lunch at my Dad's company's guest house and then head back home in the afternoon. I can accommodate up to total of 4 people. If more want to come they will have to find accommodation elsewhere. Obviously we need to take cars and use our bike carriers. Mine will take 2.

2. Wynad-Wythri resorts: They have great places for running, need to find out if there are long bike trails. The resort I stayed was great although a tad expensive. (Will be wet soon)
3. Chickmagalur / Kollur / Madikere : Don't know about the rest but Chikmagalur has plenty of lonely hilly beautiful roads. It will be wet soon. Not sure if it is fun biking in rain (I think not).
4. Mysore: Brindavan Gardens and surrounding areas: This is a lovely area but need to get more information regarding the roads and trails. Will be great to ride by the river.

What do you think? Any more ideas? We should collect them into a list and assign action items to each of the group to pick one and get details and organize.

It is about 145km from Bangalore. Either we can go there the previous
evening, stay overnight and comeback the next evening, or leave early
in the morning say at 4:00 AM reach there by 7 AM and drive back the
same day late afternoon.

I've heard Bangalore-Mysore via Kanakapura road is a pretty good ride.
Also Pearl Valley off Bannerghatta road would be a good day ride.

Ghat sections just off Hassan (Sakleshpur/Charmadi ghats etc...) would
be very good also.

Hi folks

one suggestion from a starter (well, sort of)...last time i biked with you all, I was way behind (and hence lost my way too <sheepishly>)....i guess the key reason is my fitness - would like to hear suggestions on a training routine/plans so that i can get to a point where i can join you all in 60-70km rides. I can right now do perhaps 35-40km, but not at the speeds you all go, much slower...hence my suggestion..else i will not feel fit enough to join in on your longer rides. and i will always feel that i might slow you all down if i do end up joining - actually this is the reason i skipped last 2 weekend rides with you all and ended up riding shorter stretches by myself, although i am quite enthu about biking...

any thoughts? so, to sort of set a goal, what is a good training program that i can follow during the week so that i can aim to do maybe longer distances (anywhere from 60-100km) and i can dream of attempting the Himachal mountain biking challenge or the Mt Everest bike rally in say 3-4 months?

thanks,
rajeev

Hi Rajeev,

I am also new to long distance cycling, but can suggest you to do a 50KM ride on weekend (both the days) for couple of weeks. That will get you ready for 100KM rides.  kanakapura-Kaglipura--Bannerghatta and back should be good training ground. In forghtnight time you should be riding at the head of the pack :)

Cheers
Gaurav

Hi Mallik

It looks like only we both would be able to make it to the Sunday's ride. Shall we proceed as planned or take a shorter route (kanakapura-Bannerghatta).

Regards

Gaurav

I can join you for Bannerghatta if you are doing it this Sunday. If you cam meet me like last time I will take you on the back roads so we can cut out some of the traffic on kanakapura main road.

I am planning a 20K run on Saturday on so will not be able to male the bike ride if planned for Saturday.
