Hello Friends!

A friend passed this along, and it looks like something other Friends

Hi All.

singing, speaking, etc. inspired by Obama's victory. Sunday, 2PM.
Let's see if we can get teh city celebrating a little. Join me if you

I wasn't able to fully commit to it until last night, due to illness and employment issues, but those have finally cleared up, more or less, and now it's time to act!

> The basic Obama choir idea: (open to evolution) Get 100 singers (at least) together to spend SUnday, Nov 2 and/or Election Day, Nov 4, singing songs in support of the Obama campaign around NH. Instruments- not sure... singing is more stealthy and portable.... not off the table, though
> The songs we sing: songs of optimism, hope and freedom; easy enough for people to join in; a joyful noise. Need suggestions. Part of the brainstorming. Songs addressing the ideals that we hope the Obama administration will stand for, and that the campaign has come to stand for, more or less- optimism, cooperation, etc. (we can use this form to encourage accountability after the election). A positive alternative to the near riot-inciting Republican campaign.
> Rehearsals: a core group would rehearse harmonies and so forth in advance, to be a strong lead
> Organization: a number of people sharing the responsibilities so no one is swamped and if one person gets sick the event can go forward
> Assets: a great community of singers, access to the Boston-wide community of choral singers, access to (and ability to create) community organizing websites to organize song selection, ride sharing, calendar, etc.
> Inspirations: Pete Seeger, J Billington Bullworth, craigslist, etc. etc.
> More background: I have been rolling the idea around for a while- of putting together a choir to sing for Obama in NH (and wherever else would do some good)- but have been trying to get jobs, and I got sick, and was not able to fully commit until last night. However, the combination of the extreme vitriol put forth by the extreme right last week, and my watching of the movie Bullworth last night, has really lit a fire under my butt; and a returning of energy as I get over the current plague, and finally having enough paying work to sustain me (WOOHOO) has enabled me to go ahead.

This seems awesome, but also slightly creepy... which I think is also awesome :D

(By which I mean, I don't think there's a real risk of the kind of cult-of-personality you see elsewhere, but I think it's funny when things hint at that.)

Peace,
Zach

PS, I think it would be nice if this list could accomodate slightly more chatty/non-business emails like this one. If you disagree, please speak up before unsubscribing and we'll work something out...
