Beacon Hill Friends House is proud to present Quaker Peterson Toscano for a special event on Wednesday, December 4, 2013. Hilarious, insightful, edgy, and thought-provoking, performance artist Peterson Toscano uses comedy and storytelling to explore justice issues in a discussion-driven performance.

Using comedy and storytelling, performance artist Peterson Toscano explores LGBTQ lives, privilege, and climate issues. But this performance is not simply a canned show where the audience sits passively waiting for stuff to happen. Instead it will be a unique presentation where the audience drives the content through questions and discussion points. Having over 50 possible comic and serious scenes to perform, Peterson will choose portions to offer based on audience interaction. Drawing from plays such as “Doin’ Time in the Homo No Mo Halfway House,” “I Can See Sarah Palin from my Window,” “What Would Walt Whitman Do?” and his ground-breaking work, “Transfigurations,” which reveals gender outlaws in the Bible, Peterson will entertain and stir up thinking on an array of political, social, and spiritual issues. This will be a one of a kind performance including old work and new–some created on the spot. Topics may include: LGBTQ issues, the ex-gay movement (where they tried and utterly failed to de-gay Peterson), climate change, conflict and peace, power and privilege, and gender variant Bible characters. Peterson is a brilliant shape-shifter of a performer embodying many characters presented with warmth, humor, and surprising twists.
