Dearest Interns,

Three things:
1. dinner
2. activity logs
3. blog

We hope all is well at your gardens!  Anders and I are planning to have a dinner for all of our intern so get excited for some great food and great company!  We'd like to catch up with everyone and hear how things are going and what kinds of projects everyone is working on... this dinner just may count as our mid-semester meeting with you guys, if we feel like we get to hear enough out of each of you that night.  We're open to meeting with you one on one basis (we'd love to!) so let us know if that's something you'd like to do soon.  All that being said **Does anyone live in a place where we could host a dinner of ~20 people?  Maybe those of you who live in co-ops, houses, or just big enough spaces with a kitchen could look into the feasibility of that? PLEASE LET US KNOW ASAP.**  The dinner is tentatively planned for Wednesday, Oct. 20, meeting at 7:30 to start cookin'! PLEASE LET US KNOW IF YOU CAN MAKE IT THAT DAY--If you can't come, tell us and also tell us what days in your schedule work best for a dinner.  I want to make sure there will be enough of you who can attend.  It will be much more fun to get all of us together than just a sparse few.

We also encourage all of you to bring ingredients from your gardens ! As the dinner gets closer, try to let us know what ingredients you'd be able to supply so we can have some idea of what we're throwing together to nom nom nom on.

REMINDER ABOUT ACTIVITY LOGS:

You're required to keep a running log of the activities you do each week.  On your activity log, please: Write down the dates and the length of time you've spent doing work for your garden each week and jot down a description of the activities/projects you worked on. This description doesn't need to be longer than two or three sentences.  You'll need to have your contract signed by your supervisor once for our midsemester requirement: this will be DUE THE WEEK OF OCT. 17-23. You can turn it in to us at the dinner!  If you're not planning on coming to the dinner (party pooper), you can get it to us another time that week.

Your contract should be signed again at the end of the semester.  The week of Nov 28-Dec 4 is the last week that you are required to put in hours for your garden... You'll need to turn in your completed and signed activity log by Monday, Dec. 6.  This is the first Monday of reading week.. we really don't want to spend time during our study week trying to track down interns, so please be respectful to us!  At the end of the semester, your hours should add up to the amount of time you agreed to in your contract.  Your page-long reflections will be due by the end of reading week--you can email those to us.

*Final Note: Our BLOG.  bugi2010.wordpress.com.  We encourage all of you to write a little blurb about your garden! Feel free to talk about the work you've been doing and include pictures, if you can!  Blog entries will not count for more than 30 minutes of time toward your internship.  That being said, we expect any entries to be written with lots of love and care. We want our blog to be taken seriously, so let's minimize the spelling and grammar mistakes.  READ AND RE-READ your blurb a few times before you decide it's good enough to be published. Send all polished blog entries to Sofi -- spec...@berkeley.edu, Sofi will then review them, polish them off a teensy bit more, and post them!

Please let us know if you still have questions about this, or about anything for that matter.

Garden on, interns!  Make sure that you're being as helpful as you can to your garden.  If they're unorganized about directing volunteers and delegating them tasks, maybe you could help them brainstorm a way to make that more efficient (ex: put up a white board near the entrance where the garden managers can keep a running list of tasks that they see fit for volunteers so that people aren't wandering around not knowing what to do).  Be on the look-out for ways to make your garden a little bit more of an awesome place to be! And check in with your supervisors about what they envision for their garden... and try to help them with that vision!

**When replying to this email, email amy.w...@gmail.com and earth...@gmail.com if you'd like to just contact Anders and Amy**  Let's minimize on the spam!

Peas and love,

Anders and Amy

Hello Anders and Amy,

I have a class until 8pm on Wednesday, so I wont be able to make it any
Wednesday. 7pm would work on any other day. Also, I live in a huge house
that could host 20 people. It has a large kitchen that runs into the
dining room and living room. I also have a backyard (on the chance that it
will be sunny out!) I would just have to ask my roommates if its cool, but
Im 99.999999% sure they would be down!

Regarding activity logs....I have a log book that I've been writing the
week, hours worked, and activities in. Is the fact that its bullet pointed
and not in a sentence structure okay?

Thanks,

Natalie
