Dear BPSU Members,

Happy new year! We hope you had a well-deserved and enjoyable holiday.

BPSU is excited to be back for the winter semester. We are lining up a series of events for you this term.

1. BOOK CLUB

Just sending you a reminder for our very first book club. We are reading Mark Epstein's Thoughts Without a Thinker (part 1)

The first meet will be on Monday 14 Jan, 3pm at the UC Junior Common Room. For any inquiry, please contact Jessica: Jess.s...@utoronto.ca

Also see attached poster.

2. MINDFULNESS STUDY - PARTICIPANTS NEEDED

If you meditate, please contact Shon. He is looking for participants for a mindfulness study. Please read message from Shon:

I am currently a member of the Affect and Cognition Lab, and have been running a study (supervised by Dr. Adam Anderson) that aims to better understand the relations between mindfulness practice, trait mindfulness, personality, and problem solving. Persons currently practicing mindfulness meditation on a daily (or almost daily) basis are needed for a study investigating the cognitive benefits of mindfulness meditation practice. The study involves three sessions (on separate days), totaling 2.5 hours. Participants will be required to fill out personality questionnaires, and engage in a number of problem-solving tasks. Compensation is $30 upon completion. If interested, please email  shon.shum@mail.utoronto.ca

3. MIND MATTERS 3

I am sure a lot of you are already wondering what is up with MIND MATTERS Symposium. I am glad to tell you that things are going really well. We have got a team of superb heavy-weighed speakers with an exciting theme. Keep your eyes and ears open. Announcement will be made soon!

That's all for now. There will be more to come.

Wishing you all a successful and smooth start for the new semester!

Sincerely
Joseph Tse
