Hello BOSEF community,

I'm sorry if you are receiving this email twice, or if you are a BGSU student - all of this information will still be relevant. We were having difficulties in the UT email list, so I thought it would be easiest to send out a complete email to everyone. Thanks for your patience. Please read the email completely as the info for an event tomorrow, Oct 17th is included if you'd like to attend.

  • Reminder that this Saturday Oct 19th 9am-12:00pm is our monthly group meeting with BGSU here at UT. Instead of a speaker, we will be volunteering from 9-11am at Thomas Jackson's urban garden, located minutes from campus down Bancroft (see attached map). The proper address is 1489 Milburn Ave Toledo, OH. Dr. Martin will be sending out a more formal email with more details. We will meet back on campus at University Hall around 11am, and rooms 4410, 4440, 4480, 4500 will be reserved to break out into groups. Lunch will follow shortly after noon at Subway in the Student Union.
Be well dressed and ready to help put some beds away for the fall, as well as hear about the growing need for urban agriculturists in food desserts like Toledo. Please watch for Dr. Martin's formal email to the group as well.

I'm very excited to see the work that Thomas Jackson does; if you have not heard about his fight with the city about his urban garden, see this attached article.

ONLY UT STUDENTS: To decrease our carbon footprint and to make use of the limited parking available on the street, all UT students should meet in our regular location of the Health and Human Services parking lot just off the north entrance of campus around 8:30am.Please mark on the doodle poll here so we can plan ahead.
This is very important: we will still be meeting at UT BEFORE going to the urban garden, and then meet back on campus for our regular group meeting. There should be little reason why you need to drive just yourself to the garden since we will be back on campus at 11am.
  • If you would like to bring the shirt you chose to screen print with a BOSEF logo, you may do so, however, we are still accepting designs for the shirts through the end of October! November we will vote on the best design and then screen print the logos, so you may choose to hold on to your shirt till the next group meeting.
  • TOMORROW Oct 17, 7-8pm is a public lecture at UT's Lake Erie Center by Dr. Sanjay Khare from the Physics department called Building a sustainable energy future(sound familiar?). This lecture will be a general discussion about the global issues of sustainability and its indirect effects on Lake Erie. This lecture is recommended from Dr. Daryl Dwyer, and Dr. Khare has actually given a similar lecture to past BOSEF students years ago!
If you would like to attend the lecture, I'm driving the van from UT main campus to the LEC. Just text me at (440) 610-2278 - we will be leaving UT at 6:15pm on the road between Bowman-Oddy and the Performing Arts Center.
  • Lastly, Friday is the Climate Strike at city hall from 12pm-1pm. If anyone does plan to go, let me know and we'll start a groupme chat.

Thank you for your patience, see you all soon, and sorry again for the overdue message
