Road Map for National Activities   till March 2008

Team members:

  1. Aditya, BM Nashik - coordinator
  2. Muruganandan, BM Hyderabad
  3. Abhijit, BM Pune
  4. Nishith, BM Delhi

National Activities

Frequency: Min once in two months

Activities Short-listed so far

  1. Traffic month - September

In this activity, which we plan to taka up in the month of September, all chapters will first list out all problems related to traffic in their respective cities through various means. Then an action plan will be devised to tackle most of the problems and they will be taken to completion by September-end. Work on this has started.

  1. Tree plantation – looking at it from maintenance and long term point of view as well.

SCOPE:

A nation level activity involving all interested chapters of BM. Saplings will be planted in residential areas, areas near to schools, colleges etc..Saplings will be planted by involving local people ( includes children, women) by BM members. Then the responsibility of growing in to trees like regular watering will be given to those local people. Each family one sapling. Then BM members will take up the job of monitoring activity by visiting those places as per their convenience. Each sapling will have a  board displaying BM_local chapter name, our logo along with some good quotes or some useful information about the sapling. There is no constraints of type of sapling or chapters can decide after consulting with concern people.

DURATION:

A choice of 2 days ( mostly week ends) will be given to chapters for executing this plan. And then monitoring activity can be taken up convenience of individual chapters.

     TARGET ESTIMATE:

Each chapter minimum 25 saplings , maximum could be anything( say 50).

  Say 6 chapters get involved (minimum) - 25 * 6 = 150

                                               (maximum) - 50*6 =  300

An additional factor of additional 30 saplings by upcoming chapters

                                                   Total         - 350

Expenses:

Printing of BM sign boards and fences( if required) can be centrally/locally arranged at cheapter cost and can be distributed across various chapters by any means. If this is finalised, one of the project coordinator will be incharge of this job and Joint secretary projects have to take up updates regularly to ensure the work gets done as per planned.

Saplings:

These days there are many NGOs or organizations who will come forward to provide saplings for free of cost. So the chapter coordinator has to approach people with set of clean plan and definitely this national activitty will be easily recognized.

In the worst case, saplings can be bought at minimum cost in some nearby villages and this plan can be executed. For this respective chapters can approach National Treasurer for getting funds from BM central account.

Others:

Depends on chapter's capacity following things can be done

                     1. A chief guest can be invited.

                     2. Media can be approached.

                      3. Some new ideas can be merged along with this project.

What is the advantage of doing this project ?

  1. A National activity like this first of all will bring all BM of various chaters come together   and perform a unified project across India.

2. BM will reach people of common classes. ( goto street strategy). This will help BM to reach    to middle class people rather than people who are very much used with technology.

3.   BM members will gain a lesson about how common class reacts if we try to do somethinggood for them.

  1. RTI applications, camps and awareness

RTI is a very powerful tool, that needs to be promoted. In this we have to start taking up issues which will result in some visible result.

This tool will be used with all other activities wherever necessary, like in traffic month. A booklet in Hindi has been prepared which will be shared with all members of BM, and a soft copy will be put on the main yahoo group.

  1. Mission Sahasra Jyoti -- eye donation

This is to promote eye-donation, as it will bring light in the lives of many individuals. It will be an ongoing project, which will be taken up periodically.

  1. Calamity Assistance Teams (CATs):
Teams should be earmarked and guidelines issued for quickly sending Calamity Assistance Teams (CATs) in areas affected by natural or other disasters like floods, drought, earthquake, terrorist attacks, riots, etc. This will help us people in distress and win their hearts as well.

  1. Rapid Assistance Teams (RATs) at national & state levels:
We should form Rapid Assistance Teams (RATs) at national & state levels to be dispatched to the chapters concerned when an chapter needs   manpower / mass / moral support while it has taken up fighting for some issue for the public like water, human rights, roads and is involved in demonstrations, dharna or the like.

  1. A separate team will be made for "Education" after calling for nominations from BM Main Yahoo group. Preference will be given to members / non-members who have worked in the field of education before. The task of this team will be to draft the education policy and to prepare a plan of action to implement it.

  1. Organising unorganized labour in cities like construction workers, petty workers, domestic helps, etc. and landless labour in Rural areas

  1. Local area Public Assistance Cells (LAPACs)

Help citizens fight for their rights, against corruption, legitimate concerns and needs, etc. --- personal or community linked like ration cards, water, electricity connection, roads, trees, safety, land records, health, etc.

The projects team will provide:

  1. plan to action – how to initiate the activity.
  2. Soft copy of all the propagation material to be used for the activity, which will include the objective of the activity. The chapters may suitably modify the copies and get them printed.
  3. A draft of the report that needs to be filled in as the activity progresses.

We have divided ourselves amongst zones for better coordination, and achieve better performance through "ownership".

Just to give a brief idea:

Aditya – central and western (part)

Muru – south

Abhijit – western(part) and north (part)

Nishith – north (part) and east and north-east

Details of this will be mailed soon.

It will be responsibility of each team member to

  1. see to it that the national level activity gets implemented in the respective states
  2. keep a track of the activities (chapter-level) being implemented in the chapters
  3. Respond to any queries / suggestions received from the particular area. E.g. if I get a call from mysore, I will pass it on to muru, who will have to take it to completion.
