Dear All,
We will have discussion on bm_pune group and if you ever feel many mails are coming then please edit
your membership to 'Daily Digest' .
In last week we have had
1) Visit Orphan Home Visit by
Manoj,
Pradnya,
Amol,
Jagdeesh,
Rahul,
Narendran.
The purpose of visit was to assess the need of Home and find ways
of helping them. As immediate help we will give them a set book of IX
std. Finance as usual need. We will go through their accounts and then
see how much expenditure is required for a child in a year. Some govt.
subsidy can also be given to such home, but probably the officer is
asking for undertable deal. More details will follow from people who
visited.
2)
Attended presentation of TTS(Tribal Talent Search) Program by
Milind Dhatte
Brief idea
Talented youth in
tribal area with or without education continue to work as unskilled
labour. Virtual absence of opportunities and the bondage of struggling
for subsistence inhibit their talent. A handful of educated tribal
youth succeed in getting jobs in cities, they leave their villages and
community behind. Their prosperity probably helps their individual
households but does not help the community. Development efforts in
tribal villages continue to be dependent and tend to make dependency
chronic. Health and education projects by NGOs and governments – though
absolutely essential – are in essence a charity. Their purpose is not
to promote prosperity in tribal villages. Self-employment loans by
government and semi-government bodies are often wasted, for they do not
come with a package of entrepreneurship development. Tribal youth
hardly have an opportunity to learn market wisdom and entrepreneurship.
Tribal Talent Search program (TTS) is targeted at addressing some of these problems.
The TTS mission
is to find talented tribal youth (a flexible age group of 16-25 years)
and support them with finance and capacity-building for a limited
period of 24 to 36 months. The program takes the form of a partially
guided fellowship. The selected youth get an honorarium every month.
This is to free them from the worries of subsistence of their families
and to enhance some risk-bearing capacity for the would-be
entrepreneur. The period of 24 months has a staggered program of
orientations, trainings, and workshops for developing the youth as
entrepreneurs or as leaders of development.
The TTS vision is
that the program will create a group of socially sensitive and locally
prosperous individuals. These individuals will be free of government or
political dependency. They shall form the next generation of "leaders
of development" within tribal communities. The TTS shall develop them
as individuals who care for their community and help other talented
youth prosper. The program envisions a ripple effect creating more and
more hubs of self-propelled prosperity in tribal areas.
The program has concept 'Resource Person group" in which a person
is supposed to devote 15 days a year in tribal area, live with
identified youth, understand them and guide/suggest/help them in
developing local enterprenuer in them as the object said above.
Please follow with either Milind or me for more details and interest.
3) Tree Planatation
I got information on saturday from Tekadi Person that there is
going to tree plantation in Parvati Hill Side. Program was on Sun
morning 7:30, so couldn't inform the group. We had planted more than 40
plants. We also saw snakes which were rescued by some of Tekadi guys.
Later I was given chance to introduce to Tekadi people, around 20 in
number, mostly students. There we met Mr. Vinod Jain a very active tree
saver who has done lot of work in saving and was able to save more 400
trees in 3 months from illegal cutting. He said that there are three
kinds of permission about tree in Pune Muncipal Region.
1. Cut the tree and plan at least three more tree else where.(Small Trees)
2. Transplant the tree.(Mostly mid sized).
3. Trimming, mostly for large trees.
So if you see anybody cutting tree, immediately ask for the
permission and if person refuse to show the premission. You can contact
Mr. Vinod Jain
(9422305735) . Keep this contact handy. He will take care
all things like dealing with Police or PMC. They have been successfully
able to save hundreds of trees.
