Hey family,
As the COVID-19 crisis unfolds, forcing all of us to shift our daily lives to slow the spread, we understand the weight of this moment is heavier for some than others. For many, "sheltering in place" provides needed time for rest, reconnection with family and personal things that are often pushed aside in the daily shuffle. But for others, the realities of housing instability, job loss, access to healthcare and isolation are compounding quickly and people need real, consistent support.
We know too well, that during times of great crisis, the systems in America that fail Black people on a normal day, become even less reliable and the COVID-19 pandemic is no exception. It's always the collective care and action of Black folks supporting and advocating for each other that gets us through moments of turmoil and uncertainty. So tomorrow, the Movement for Black Lives (M4BL) invites you to join us for The Social Distance Social Club.
This 90-minute online social experience is an opportunity to hear from organizers on the ground who are creating networks and opportunities for Black people to support one another, and find out about what steps M4BL is demanding our elected officials take to stop the spread and lasting harm of COVID-19.
Black communities know what's best for Black people. Where we can, we are providing for one another and where we don’t have enough or where the systems meant to meet the needs of the people fail, we’re demanding more from our elected officials. Come hang out with us and hear more about what we can do, together, to ensure that our communities are able to survive and thrive on the other end of this crisis.
In Black love,
Fresco Steez with M4BL
