Dear Teacher Wu,
It’s fairly easy online. I did it earlier this year:
1. Go online and follow the steps to fill in the application:
https://www.passports.gov.au/Web/Forms/Passport/Renew/RenewPassport_0.aspx
2. The online procedure does not actually ‘lodge’ the application. The process fills in the renewal form for you so you can print it out on the printer.
3. Follow instructions and book at a post office for a “passport interview” to actually lodge your application. If you are short of time, you can go straight to the post office and ask them directly when do they have a free slot. You need to follow through a few links to get to the booking page, but here it is (make you select the right post office):
4. You need to prepare passport photos (I forgot how many). If you have none, the post office can take one for you.
5. On the renewal form, one of the fields is the date you want to depart the country. Standard processing is quite a few days, but you can pay extra (quite a bit extra) to have priority processing (something like 24 hours). [My dad did this when he was applying for his.]
6. With priority processing, you can go to the passport office in the city (near central station) to pick it up in person. [We collected dad’s passport this way.]
7. Catch the plane and you are away.
Blessings,
Spencer
