Hi Jean, Surrey and Langley chicken folks,,

This is how the process worked in Vancouver, so maybe we can follow a
similar course in Surrey and Langley:

In Vancouver, a concerned citizen (a boy actually), wrote to the Mayor
and Council and asked them to alter their bylaw, which they agreed to
consider to do. That's when I moved here and got involved. I learned
that a loose bunch of people were organizing to present our case to
the Mayor and Council. Once we were organized, we wrote them a letter
requesting an audience to talk with them about this. At that point the
Vancouver Food Policy Council was also involved and for our cause, and
since then they have been helping us interface with the Mayor and
Council. We just met again with the VFPC again because they have their
proposed bylaw ready for Mayor and Council ready to adopt, and they
wanted feedback, to tweak it before it goes to Council in October, for
final ratification.

I sent the Surrey Mayor and Council a letter a while back, and the
Mayor replied with a brief but not un-positive response (left me with
a little bit of hope). So now I guess we need to get our group
together, and write them a letter as an organized force, with our
proposed revised bylaw, and ask to present ourselves and our proposal
to the Mayor and Council.

Unfortunately I am moving back to Oregon November 1st, so I need you
all to gather together, organize, and appoint yourselves a "leader" to
keep everyone focused, moving forward, and heading in the right
direction. (I'll still be a resource via email & phone if I'm wanted
or needed)

Thanks!
